A total of six people died in a shootout in the US state of New Jersey, the goal was apparently a kosher supermarket. Now the FBI has arrested a man.

The FBI arrested a man after attacking a New Jersey Jewish store that killed six people. The 35-year-old is "in contact with the perpetrators," said the prosecutor.

The investigators tracked down the man in Keyport, New Jersey, after finding a handwritten note with his phone number and address at one of the alleged perpetrators.

The detainee runs a pawnshop where the FBI seized several pistols and rifles, as well as large amounts of ammunition. The man illegally owned the weapons.

US authorities assume the act of terrorism

The relationship between him and the two attackers is not yet known. On Tuesday, a man and woman in Jersey City had killed three people in the shop and a policeman. The alleged perpetrators subsequently died in a shootout with the police.

The US authorities classify the attack as a terrorist case (read more about the background here). Anti-Semitism and an aversion to the police had played a role in the crime.

"The evidence suggests an act of hatred," said New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal. The suspects had shown interest in the partially anti-Semitic group of "Black Hebrews".
