The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced severe protests to the United States over the expulsion of two Chinese officials.
"American accusations against Chinese people are very ignoring the truth and it is a big mistake ... We strongly urge the United States to correct its mistake, cancel the related decision and protect the rights due to Chinese individuals under Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The New York Times reported yesterday that the US government moved secretly to expel two officials at the Chinese embassy earlier this year under the pretext of "violating security rules at a military base in Virginia."
Washington has been continuously stoking tensions with China from waging a trade war against Beijing to interfering in China's internal affairs, especially in Hong Kong, not the latest of which are accusations leveled against Chinese diplomats.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said last Friday that the current relationship between Beijing and Washington faces serious difficulties and challenges, calling on the United States to stop interfering in China's internal affairs and contribute to maintaining strategic balance, stability, security and regional and international peace.
