After the state elections in Saxony in September, difficult government formation emerged. Now the parties have passed another hurdle. After the CDU, the SPD in Saxony also gave the green light for the Kenya alliance.
In a member survey, 74 percent of the party base agreed to the coalition agreement, as the state association said. State party leader Martin Dulig was pleased with the "clear vote". 64 percent of the Saxon Social Democrats participated in the survey. "The SPD members have strengthened our backs," said Dulig.

Results in detail
The Christian Democrats had already voted in favor of the coalition with a large majority at a special party conference last week. The decision of the Greens is still pending - the vote ran until Monday noon. Counting and announcement of the result are planned for Thursday.
When all parties have given their final approval, Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) should be re-elected in the state parliament on Friday and the new cabinet sworn in.
In the state election on September 1, the CDU had become the strongest force in front of the AfD despite considerable losses. The previous black-red coalition lost its majority. Therefore, the Greens were brought on board, who passed the SPD in the election.
