Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has accused an American diplomat working in the Colombian capital, Bogota, of participating in a foiled conspiracy involving attacks on two Venezuelan army barracks.
According to the "AP" this accusation came in a speech that Maduro made yesterday in the Venezuelan National Constituent Assembly where he held Parliament Speaker Juan Guaido responsible for the conspiracy.
Yesterday, Venezuelan Minister of Communication and Information Jorge Rodriguez talked about a conspiracy against Maduro prepared by two opposing Venezuelan parliamentarians, Janet Fermin and Fernando Orozco.
Rodriguez said the goal was to launch attacks on two Venezuelan army barracks in the eastern province of Sucre.
Maduro ordered his country's army last September to declare a state of alert to confront the threats of the Colombian government to launch a military aggression against Venezuela and to conduct a military exercise under the slogan of peace and sovereignty in the states of Zulia, Tachira, Apure and Amazonas, which is located on the border between Venezuela and Colombia.
Venezuela faces American attempts to interfere in its internal affairs and destabilize it by tightening economic and financial sanctions and supporting right-wing forces with the aim of dominating the capabilities of this oil-rich country.
