We will deal with the defendants and the judges at a certain date

Walking for another election was hardly in the cards. In conversations that I have had in recent months with elected officials on both sides of the political spectrum, they have given me the feeling that this time they are determined to prevent damage to the state, and that they will do everything to prevent elections - if not at a time when Benjamin Netanyahu was mandated, then when he was transferred to Benny Gantz, or when he returned to the Knesset. .

I don't believe I was intentionally misled. Everyone thought something sure would happen in the "gong" moment when elections are declared by law, even without the Knesset's decision. Everyone thought that such an absurdity could not happen to us, and it did.

Commentators are quick to say that this is an accurate repetition of the latest election campaign. I do not share this assertion. I believe that if Netanyahu is elected Prime Minister Likud candidate in the primaries, and if the Supreme Court presents legal difficulties to Netanyahu following the indictments, we will expect a completely different election campaign.

Blue and White will find it very difficult to repeat the "unity" mantra of a national unity government because, in terms of rotation, Netanyahu's terms are already known and Netanyahu's refusal to serve under Netanyahu is already known, not even for six months. And so a blue-and-white election campaign would call for a unity, unreasonable government. A government of unity with Gideon Sa'ar will be very easy to set up, but his chances of being elected Likud leader and the next cabinet candidate appear to be lower than Netanyahu's.

In such a situation, blue and white will have to run a completely different election campaign that will focus on legal proceedings in a democracy, as this issue is on the agenda, and is a matter of the few issues on which there is widespread agreement among party leadership. The key message will be a call to the public not to support the party headed by an official accused of crime. This time, one can say without hesitation that Netanyahu is being charged with a series of crimes, which if found guilty, would be forced to spend very long years in prison. Blue does not have a sharp message, and it is accurate.

Netanyahu will have trouble repeating the message of the previous election campaign, calling on his "base" to vote for a narrow right-wing government that will lead hawkish political moves, promising - on the front page of this paper - not to form a national unity government. Immediately after the election, he changed his mind and announced that a unity government is necessary to meet the security and economic challenges ahead. I believe he will focus this time on the court before which he will appear, and will try to undermine his trust in him, as he has done - unsurprisingly - in handling police and prosecution. The next election will therefore deal with judges and defendants.
