Some people report illegally raising 24 piglets
The AFCD received earlier reports that someone had illegally raised livestock in Cheung Hom Village, Pat Heung, Yuen Long. After investigation, a total of 24 live young pigs and 5 live adult pigs were found illegally raised in the open site. During the investigation today, no one admitted to possession of the pigs. The Department will continue to follow up the investigation.
Based on public health and animal disease control considerations, AFCD will destroy the live pigs seized later and take samples for the analysis of African swine fever.
An AFCD spokesman pointed out that raising livestock and engaging in related activities in Hong Kong is regulated by the Public Health (Animals and Birds) Ordinance. All live livestock farms must hold livestock breeding licenses, and offenders can be fined up to 5 Ten thousand yuan, the maximum penalty for repeat offenders is 100,000 yuan. The spokesman reminded the public not to raise livestock illegally or they would be prosecuted. Members of the public who suspect that someone is raising livestock illegally can call 1823 to report it.
