(CNN Spanish) - The McDonald's fast food chain announced through its official Twitter account in Peru that it decreed two days of mourning for the death of two of its employees.
“In relation to the terrible loss of our collaborators Carlos Gabriel Edgardo Campos Zapata and Alexandra Antonella Porras Inga, we want to announce that we have decreed two days of mourning since tomorrow, so all our restaurants will remain closed throughout the country without affecting the remunerative conditions of our collaborators, ”says the statement.

The events, which are being investigated by the Peruvian authorities, occurred in Pueblo Libre, province of Lima, Peru, on December 15, when two young people died electrocuted while working in a franchised restaurant in the chain, reports the state news agency Andean
The National Superintendency of Labor Inspection (Sunafil) reported on December 16 that specialized inspectors would go to the premises to “gather information and initiate investigations that will clarify in a reliable way how this unfortunate event occurred,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Sunafil reported that if it were concluded that the employer was responsible and the safety regulations were breached, a penalty of more than $ 56,000 would be imposed.
Through their Twitter account, McDonald's Peru sent their condolences to families and said that from what happened they are in contact with them to "accompany them and offer them all the necessary support during this difficult time." They also indicated that they are collaborating with the authorities to clarify the facts.
McDonald's restaurants function as a franchise, that is, each location is operated by independent owners.
"Each restaurant is solely and independently responsible for its legal and regulatory compliance, as well as for any problem related to the supply of products for you, and for any matter related to employment issues in the restaurant," reads the terms section. and conditions of McDonalds services.
The lawyers of the families of the deceased, according to Andina, say the establishment would have committed negligence.
