After about five years of work, the Northern Wall Promenade is open again to its full length from Jaffa Gate to the Lion Gate. It is about 3 miles that encompasses more than half of the Old City toward the west, north and east, allowing a bird's-eye view of the Christian, Muslim, and Mount of Olives. The development was initiated by the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage at a cost of NIS 11 million in the execution of the East Jerusalem Development Company, and as part of the policy of the Jerusalem Ministry and Heritage to prepare, develop and rehabilitate hiking trails in the Old City area.

In the new section, which includes the moat wall, the Hasidic Tower (Burj Al Lalak) and the Lion's Gate, infrastructure work was carried out which included the arrangement and installation of railings, lighting, and at the same time the operation was arranged with other wall-mounted facilities, including various buildings and residences. Looking into the Old City, the Muslim Quarter and Temple Mount are visible. Outside the wall, this section has the Rockefeller Museum, Scout Mountain and Mount of Olives. The Promenade of the Walls is the guardian path for the fortifications of Ottoman Jerusalem and a prominent and influential memorial to the urban landscape of the city in the past and present. To the wall itself, the promenade of the walls and the landscapes of it have unique architectural, historical, urban and landscape values, geographical, religious and geopolitical, which form part of Jerusalem's built heritage.

MK Ze'ev Elkin, Minister of Jerusalem and Heritage: "Today it is clear, Jerusalem cannot be divided, not the Old City or even a piece of it. The Wall Promenade Project expresses the connection of the different parts of Jerusalem, just as the different parts of the Old City cannot be severed from the Old City, it is impossible to detach Jerusalem from the Old City which is the heart of this city. The walls, whose original purpose was to separate, today express precisely the connection of Jerusalem, the united Jerusalem. Anyone standing here can look at the Old City and its history, and can look out to the Mount of Olives with all the historical significance of the Mount of Olives and to the Hebrew University, the place that symbolizes the future of this city. The meaning of unified Jerusalem also imposes an obligation on us to make it such in its visibility. This project is one of many works we are doing here, such as accessing the Old City, renovating the urban space and infrastructure and of course its cleanliness and we will continue to work and do for the city of Jerusalem and its residents. Mordechai Benita, Director General of the Jerusalem Ministry and Heritage: "The new section of the Northern Promenade blends well with the activities and investments of the Jerusalem and Heritage Ministry in the Old City and East City, with the overall plan to exit the Jaffa Gate and reach it back around the Old City when most of the road is on the wall. . The promenade is the historic trek of Jerusalem and the hikers there experience an environmental, cultural and heritage experience in a more relaxed atmosphere than on the street level and also reduce the hikers' alley loads.
