Russian officials condemn the American hostilities against the Syrian people

A number of Russian parliamentarians, officials and diplomats have condemned the illegal presence of American forces on Syrian soil and their pillaging and stealing of their national wealth from oil and antiquities.

The head of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev, said in an interview with a SANA correspondent in Moscow today that the Americans are pursuing aggressive behavior "by maintaining their illegal military presence on Syrian soil," explaining that Washington's plans to control Syrian oil fields harm the economy. The Syrian government, in addition to its responsibility for looting and stealing antiquities, historical monuments, and the holdings of museums located in the Syrian territories.

The Russian senator stressed that the American military presence in Syria is the main and essential factor in obstructing the path of positive development of the situation in it with regard to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the way the Syrian government sees it in the interest of the Syrian people.
Resolution 2254, adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council in December 2015, affirms that it is the Syrians who determine the future of their country themselves without any external interference and that terrorist organizations are outside of any political process.

In turn, a member of the Federation Council denounced the former Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislaq, in a similar interview, and Washington's hostile behavior towards Syria. He said, "The US policy was directed from the beginning against the government of the Syrian Arab Republic, which was and is still fighting international terrorism."

On the other hand, the head of the Russian Agency for Cooperation, Russia Sutrodniechstvo Eleanora Mitrovanova, expressed her confidence that the situation in Syria is heading towards stability, noting that the Russian cultural and scientific center in Damascus, which was closed after being subjected to missile attacks by terrorist organizations, will open soon.
