The Council for Higher Education (MLA) today (Tuesday) has ruled that any student who commences their studies in 2024 will be required to attend at least two English language courses.
Today's reform means that within five years, academic institutions, including universities and colleges, will move to learning by four language skills: reading, writing, understanding and speaking. Alongside this, every student in an academic institution will be required to study at least two English language courses during their undergraduate studies.

According to the decision made, these are not only English language learning training courses, but also English language content courses that will be taught in English, elective courses, enrichment courses, and more. The courses that the student will take will be set according to his / her English level upon graduation. According to the MLA, the acquisition of English language skills is required in order to deal with the background material in the various courses during their academic studies, and to integrate the graduates optimally in the local and international employment market.
One of the major problems is the gap between English language education and the higher education institutions. The MLA noted that the process was in coordination with the Ministry of Education, which undertook to transition to the new format of the four English language skills, including the matriculation exams.
