The right must display a program

It is possible to love or hate it, to seep into it and to twitch it or to identify with passion. But the reality of a one-time election is being drained into the pair of loaded words that have become the center of political debate in Israel: "Only Netanyahu." And no, this is not a call to action, not an impulse to vote and not a battle cry, but the current situation in the Israeli right-wing bloc.

On election night, it was still a question mark. The creation of the right block and the failure to break it gave an unequivocal answer. It is not easy to explain how this happened in the first place, and what is most difficult is to predict if and how the block will maintain its unity without Netanyahu. What about Naftali Bennett and his economic outlook and Shas with the almost socialist view? The connection between Givat Shmuel and Bnei Brak, or between Ofakim and Ofra? The answer is: Netanyahu.

To understand how powerful Netanyahu's centrifugal power is, it is enough to look to the left. From the day of the establishment of Blue and White and today, its leaders and journalists ensure that the Likud revolt knocks on the door. Lapid, Ya'alon and Gantz scattered endless riddles about Likudniks who meet with them in the dark and promise to act to oust Netanyahu. Open checks were recorded for the ultra-Orthodox, the annexation of the valley was offered to Bennett, and even racist and cynical use was made on the joint list as a game tool that was never really intended to be shared. But in every attempt, the bloc stood clear: only Netanyahu.

And, to be sure, "Netanyahu only" is not a substitute for a worldview. There is no substitute, and Netanyahu is a human full of shortcomings and mistakes. Like any politician, there are plenty of reasons to oppose him, and like any leader - he too has an expiration date. This is why it is critical to criticize him, who must make the voices seeking to be replaced from the camp, especially when they rely on a great deal of logic and justice. But if a dramatic turnaround in dealing with a storm on the party's leaders does not happen, his supporters, who point out his extraordinary achievements as well as his critics who list his failures, will have to come to terms with the reality that is currently unmatched. Again, only Netanyahu.

Yes, the national camp kind of catches. On the one hand, if Netanyahu is in the next election, the story is bound to stick to it. But on the other hand, inward differences are rising, shares of future leadership - Arden, Shaked, Bennett and others - are eroding, the historic window of opportunity may close, and even the most US-friendly regime in Israel may be replaced in a year. If the right-wing bloc does not want to find itself broken and broken on the day after Netanyahu, it must introduce a program, have a meaningful discussion about plans and not just the identity of the leaders, and produce the conceptual glue of the future right-wing bloc.
