A good three and a half months after the state election in Saxony, nothing stands in the way of a so-called Kenya coalition made up of the CDU, Greens and SPD. The Greens were the last party to agree to the alliance. In a member survey, 93.2 percent of the party members involved voted for the first tripartite alliance in Saxony. The turnout was 59 percent.
"We Greens have been working for years to make Saxony more cosmopolitan, more ecological and fairer. 30 years after the peaceful revolution, we Greens are starting a new phase: We can do this in Saxony's government," said parliamentary leader Wolfram Günther. The Saxon Greens had achieved their best result in the state with 8.6 percent in the federal state election on September 1 and are now facing their first government participation in Saxony.

The coalition agreement is to be signed on Friday in the state parliament before the parliamentary session. Then the alliance is also formally perfect. It is the third Kenya coalition in Germany. Such alliances already exist in Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg.
"Policy of being heard"
"In the negotiations, all three partners demonstrated that we can find common ground and compromise. The increased trust is a good basis for the next five years," said Green Leader Katja Meier. 30 years after the peaceful revolution, a "politics of being heard" would stimulate the participation of citizens in politics with new impulses.
On Friday, following the signing of the contract, the re-election of Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) and his swearing in are on the agenda. Kretschmer plans to present his new cabinet in the early afternoon. The ministers are then to be sworn in in the state parliament.
AfD and Linke made it clear that they will not vote for Kretschmer. CDU and SPD assumed that he was successful in the first ballot. Kretschmer needs 60 of the 119 votes. The allies have a total of 67 seats.
