(CNN Spanish) - The late singer Prince played a song entitled "1999" that was a success and still delights many to remember his lyrics. In her apocalyptic times were evoked and she urged those who listened to her to live her life to the fullest celebrating as if it were the year 1999. Prince had written the song as part of a homonymous album, which was released in September 1982.
I refer to this curious fact of our musical history because history is repeated in the case of the political trial of President Trump, as it was for President Bill Clinton in 1999. In the case of Clinton the House of Representatives voted on December 19 1998. On January 7, 1999, the Senate trial began and culminated on February 12, 1999 with the acquittal of charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.
We are in a very similar scenario. The parties are attacked in the hearings and in the main news media. The only thing different is the division of the nation in the analysis of whether Trump deserves to go to political trial. The constant polarization in politics has dominated the three years of this government, and the process against the president shows how fragmented the nation is. Although it is not known what the outcome will be in the Senate, it seems that it will end up as an acquittal by the majority of the Senate, as happened with Clinton in 1999.

During the political trial process of President Trump, a robust economic environment has prevailed, with growth rates in the area of commerce, with new treaties such as the United States, Mexico and Canada (T-MEC) and a first agreement to end to the US tariff war and China In the week that the camera voted to approve the articles of political trial, there has been a rain of bipartite measures in Congress waiting for Trump's signature before the end of 2019. If President Trump is acquitted in the Senate, then the electoral process and the 2020 campaign will begin at full speed. It remains to be seen if history charges Nancy Pelosi and this House of Representatives with the same currency that charged Newt Gingrich, who exterminated the majority that had then the Republican Party in the House after the political trial against Bill Clinton. Not only was it an electoral defeat for the Republican congress, but, at the end of his second term, Clinton enjoyed greater popularity and history has claimed it with the support of the people to date.

As long as the economy continues to show signs of solidity, such as the increase of more than 10,000 points in the stock market, and unemployment at its lowest level in decades, President Trump has those to win. If your administration continues to push for bipartite measures that attract more independent voters, this political trial will be forgotten. The Democrats, in their attempt to discredit this president, have achieved a feat that not even Trump's main detractors had achieved in many years. They have unified the Republican Party behind the figure of a president, and now a candidate, as controversial as Donald Trump is.
In November of 2020 it will be President Trump who celebrates repeating the stanza of the famous Prince's song "1999". “Cuz they say… (2000 zero party over oops out of time, So tonight I'm going to party like it's 1999).”
