The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the US sanctions against Russian gas pipelines will not affect Moscow's plans to implement its economic projects and that Europe is the true loser of Washington's punitive policies.
"Russia has implemented and will continue to implement its economic projects regardless of any sanctions," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website in response to Washington's announcement that sanctions against the North Stream 2 gas project had entered into force. Absolutely not less important, however, is the clear trend to impose US LNG on Europe, which costs it much more than Russian gas.
The statement pointed out that "Washington's claim that it is keen to protect European energy security is misleading because it is not a matter of helping Europeans to provide energy supplies without interruption at reasonable prices, but rather seeking to deprive them of guaranteed sources of such supplies from Russia, slowing the development of Europe's economy and undermining its ability to compete with the United States in international markets".
And on the 17th of this month, the US Senate approved a bill on the defense budget for the new fiscal year 2020. The fiscal obligation of the American administration is to impose sanctions on the Russian gas project, "North Nile Stream 2".
It is noteworthy that the "North Stream 2" project includes building two gas pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas annually through the Baltic Sea, territorial waters or exclusive economic regions of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
