Today, the National Assembly in Cuba chose "Parliament" Manuel Marrero to fill the post of Prime Minister pursuant to the country's new constitution, which separated the functions of the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel said, when proposing the name Marrero to the members of the Assembly, that the proposal to choose Marrero was approved by the Political Bureau of the Communist Party.
The National Assembly met in Cuba, which meets in two regular sessions annually yesterday and today to make some changes that were included in the constitutional amendment that was adopted last April, including the return of the position of Prime Minister.
Since Diaz Canel’s coming to power a year and eight months ago, the majority of the portfolios were redistributed again, and during the Cuban parliament’s session today, amendments to six ministries were approved.
Marrero, 56, who holds a civil engineering degree, served as the Minister of Tourism of Cuba.
