Hundreds of thousands of homes, offices, shops and factories will light the first candle of Chanukah this evening. The children will receive donuts, the compilers will play in more or less sophisticated raccoons, and a holiday atmosphere will fall on the State of Israel.

The short guide to all Chanukah laws

Just before the holiday, you make some mess. When is it possible to light the Chanukah candles according to cities, what is the lighting order and what happens if you are stuck outside the house until late at night.

When do they light?

Well, like every Jewish holiday, there are different and different methods here as well. Without complicating you too much, we are told that there is a controversy about whether to light the sun or the stars. Rabbi Rafi Ostrof, head of the Gush Etzion Religious Council, explains that for the most part, candles should be lit in the stars today.

Where is the menorah placed?

The menorah must be placed prominently in order to create a miracle. Some place it in a special glass box outside the door or near a window to make it look out of the street.

Order of candle lighting

You have already bought a beautiful menorah, colorful candles and even the matches. But on which side do the candles light up?

Chanukah lights another candle every day, without counting the sun. That is, on the first day one candle and the sun light, on the second - two candles and the sun, and so on.

Rabbi Baruch Efrati explains that the common practice is to arrange the candles from right to left, and every day add a candle to the left. Begin to light from the leftmost candle, and continue to the right to the rightmost candle.

The Chanukah candle lighting is a must, and the candles are lit in every house where they live. It is the custom of the Spanish that only the landlord lights one menorah. The Ashkenazi custom is that each member of the household lights his own menorah.

Women must light a Chanukah candle like men. However, they are mandatory in lighting the husband or father. If alone, welcome.

What are the blessings?

The rest of the day welcomes only "lighting a Chanukah candle" and "doing miracles"

After lighting, sing:

"These candles we light, about the miracles and the wonders and the savages and the wars that you made to our ancestors in those days at this time."

And they say:

"By your holy priests, and all these eight days of Chanukah, the candles are holy and we have no permission to use them but to see them only, to thank and praise your great name for your miracles and your wonders and your salvation."

Then you sing:

"Maoz Tzur Yeshua is good to you

Prayer House High School and there thanked him

From time to time, prepare a kitchen from the kitchen

Then I will finish the song of the dedication of the altar. "

If I didn't light the menorah on time, what to do?

If you do not light the Chanukah candle on time, it is permissible to light it with a blessing, until 10 o'clock at night. And if it lights at the door of a busy street, it can be lit by dawn, with a greeting. For the first half hour, Chanukah candles should not be used, but only to look at them. However, if there is light from electric lamps (or the candle called 'sun') other than the menorah light - light may be used.

Of course, pay attention to staying awake until the lamp is turned off and put it in a safe place to keep it safe and prevent fires.

Light the menorah only where the candle is not extinguished. If lit in a spot with wind and extinguished the menorah - must light again (without a greeting). And if it lit in a windless place and turned off the menorah anyway - don't have to turn on again (but good to turn on).
