On the way to a permanent appointment: Minister of Internal Security Gilad Arden will be interviewing the three candidates for the position this week - Chief Alon Asur (Northern District Commander), Chief Moti Cohen (Deputy Commissioner) and Alon Yedid (Jerusalem District Commander).

Already last week, in Israel Today, Arden's appeal to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit was announced to enable him to complete the appointment, despite the fact that a transitional government is currently serving.

Yesterday, News 12 announced that Mandelblit is expected to allow Arden to staff both positions this week - the commissioner and the IPS commissioner - in permanent positions, after about a year under the role of deputy director. According to estimates, the Attorney General has already given the "green light" to complete the appointments.

In light of the dissolution of the Knesset last week, Arden recently contacted Attorney General Avihai Mandelblit to look into the possibility of appointing a commissioner and IPS commissioner even during the transition government. "In the past, I decided not to bring candidates for these positions to the government in light of the dissolution of the Knesset and the expectation that a new government will be formed following the elections," Arden wrote in a letter he sent to Mandelblit.

"Given the significant change in the circumstances and the continuation of the election period and the departure of another electoral system, which also has no certainty that a government will emerge, I would like to bring before the government for approval of permanent candidates," he added.
