Photo: Reuters, Edit: Amit SimchaAfter protests broke out across Iran last month, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei seemed impatient. He convened senior security and government officials, and instructed them: Do whatever it takes to stop them.
This instruction, verified by three sources close to the Supreme Leader's inner circle and by a fourth party, has led to the most violent repression since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. About 1,500 people were killed during the protest, which has been trampled in less than two weeks since it began on November 15.
