Saudi Arabia's Attorney General announced Monday that five of those involved in the murder of journalist Jamal Hashokji were sentenced to death, while three others were sentenced to 24 years in prison. However, Saud al-Qahtani, a former senior adviser to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, was questioned but released without being prosecuted. Ahmed al-Asiri, a former deputy intelligence service, was also released because there was insufficient evidence against him.

Hashokji was brutally murdered when he arrived at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul last October, in a case that severely tarnished Ben Salman's image. The Prince denied any connection to the exile journalist's murder, writing critical columns for the Washington Post when he was living in the United States.
