(CNN) - It's the season of joy and all that that may imply.

In other words, this indulgent time of the year often leads to unpleasant following mornings.

Since there is no magic hangover pill (not yet, at least), what can you do when your hand goes out?

The answer, for many, lies in carbohydrates. A hangover is essentially severe dehydration and a drop in blood sugar, which makes the excess feel like a variety of symptoms that include nausea, fatigue, irritability and pain.

Despite this sober reality, sometimes we still feel hangover, desperate for a "cure." Addressing dehydration and raising low blood sugar levels is key, and drinking plenty of water and feeding the body with carbohydrates, healthy fats and protein can help.

Of course, the best way to avoid a hangover is to refrain from drinking, but if that is not attractive, you will have to find a way to get ahead. A new book by Lauren Shockey entitled "Hangover Helper" is full of recipes for the DIY team among us. Most of the following foods and drinks are available for quick purchase.

From currywurst to pickle juice and avocado toast, read on to see how people around the world turn to food and drink to mitigate the hangover.

Paris

Although drinking too much alcohol is not advisable the next day, many people would put their hands on the fire for a hangover remedy, and nothing beats Bloody Mary if this is the direction you choose.

While you can find it all over the world, the drink has a special meaning in Paris, where it was invented in 1921 at the Harry's New York Bar.

Although over the years many bars around the world have put their own touch on the Bloody Mary (horseradish is now more common), in Harry's it is still done in the classic way: vodka, tomato juice, Tabasco sauce , salt, pepper, lemon and Worcester sauce.

London

Hot melted cheese is a fundamental part of pizza's appeal when you have a hangover, but pizza is not the only way to get your cheese. In London, simple toasted bread with cheese is something beautiful and also very easy to prepare at home, no matter how much you are struggling.

Slide the bread on the grill to lightly toast both sides, then spread the butter and spicy mustard and stack the grated cheddar cheese on top. Slide back under the grill until the cheese melts and you're done, now you're much closer to getting through the day.

Berlin

Although Berliners would enjoy a curry sausage, or currywurst, at any time of the day, this classic German snack is perhaps the best after a great night in Berlin.

For the uninitiated, a currywurst consists of fried pork sausage cut into small pieces, then sprinkled in a spicy curry tomato sauce before sprinkling with curry powder. The rich sauce, the meaty sausage and the subtle heat of the spices awaken the dull senses and provide a revitalizing impulse. It is even better when combined with french fries.

Copenhagen

The flæskestegssandwich (roast pork sandwich), an epic and meaty sandwich, is like gold for the irritable and hungry. Danish cuisine, often associated with beautifully presented minimalist dishes of stolen ingredients from other kitchens, is actually more diverse.

The characteristic sandwich of the country has to do with dirty and delicious indulgence: think of thick slices of roasted pork neck on a soft bun with crispy pieces, pickled cucumbers, red cabbage and a spicy mayonnaise.

Eat it to help avoid a hangover (Kødbyens Høker, an outdoor kiosk in the city's meat packing district is popular for some reason), or make it your first stop when you wake up with a severe headache and hungry.

Manila

Anyone who has spent a night drinking with the locals in Manilla can attest to the city's ability to have a good time.

Chef Jordy Navarra is in charge of one of the best restaurants in the city, Toyo Eatery, famous for his refined reinterpretations of the Filipino classics.

"However, in terms of eating after excessive drinking," explains Navarra, "many Filipinos often opt for tapsilog. It is basically cured, semi-dried or marinated meat with garlic rice and a fried egg. I really like how simple, abundant and super convenient, with places that sell it all over the Manila subway. ”

In Manila, the key is to try to get ahead of the hangover by eating a large and fatty dinner at the end of a drunken night.

Sydney

The coffee culture in Sydney is famous for its healthy brunch dishes. Avocado on toast, now an ubiquitous article in modern brunch menus around the world, is an Australian invention.

It is a delicious and healthy dish after eight hours of sober sleep, but it is also an option for when you have a hangover. The high potassium content of avocado helps replenish that key nutrient, and eggs, which contain vitamin A, make the dish a solid hangover option. Add some hot sauce to increase the flavor and you will begin to feel your senses wake up.

Tokyo

Tokyo could have the most Michelin stars of any city in the world, but a tasting menu of several courses is probably not what you want if you feel bad.

Hisato Hamada, co-founder of Wagyumafia, an informal and fast chain famous for its luxurious Kobe beef sandwiches, says his hangover remedy is to eat before bedtime after a party night.

Hamada likes eki-soba, soba noodles found in train stations. “Since eki-soba is located on the platform of the [train] station, you can take it back home and usually prepares very quickly, which means you can have a bowl within 30 seconds of having asked for it (very useful when you're drunk), ”says Hamada.

“My favorite type comes with tempura and a raw egg, extra grated negi (Chinese leek) and a thick Tokyo-style soy sauce that is warm and nutritious. In general, it is a very comforting and abundant fast food to work again. ”

Bangkok

Thailand has one of the richest culinary cultures in the world, along with a famous nightlife, so it is not surprising that there are a lot of nutritious and restorative foods to choose from after a long night of partying.

Perm Paitayawat, on Instagram as @theskinnybib, is a food author, researcher and an authority on Thai and Asian food cultures: “The first and most important choice of hangover food for the inhabitants of Bangkok is 'Khao Tom Kui' : a Thai-Chinese interpretation of rice porridge with hot starch with extras ranging from stewed meat to spicy salad, ”explains Perm, who also swears to eat before bedtime.

There are several popular 24-hour places around the city that serve the dish, but Perm says that Saeng Chai Pochana, next to the Thonglor nightclub district of Bangkok, is an institution. "The spicy minced pork and Chinese plum soup would return any drunkard to your senses."

Montreal

French fries, salsa and curd cheese: If that is not music for a throbbing head, then nothing is. In Canada it is the unofficial national dish of poutine (plate of chips and cheese in sauce) that locals look for the day after a long night.

While the classic version is reliable for the hangover, there are dozens of ways to prepare the poutine, a Montreal favorite. With additions such as bacon, shredded pork and duck carnitas, it is a kind of “go big or go home”.

One of the best poutines in the city is the Poutine du Coq in Le Coq de l'Est, a great invention that combines french fries with lots of roast chicken, a fried chicken drumstick, chicken sauce and tandoori sauce. Sodium is generally not used in the same sentence as nirvana, but in this case, it deserves it.

Edinburgh

“Lorne sausage, also known as square sausage, is considered a national institution and a hangover miracle by most Scots I know,” says Simon Attridge, executive chef of Gleneagles, a luxury hotel located in the areas Highlands of Scotland.

These thick slabs of rich, fatty and tasty beef sausage fit into a roll like a glove. The roll chosen is important for the demanding gourmands of the hangover, and most opt for a special light and airy roll, called the morning roll, which is sold for half a dozen at all local stores in Edinburgh and beyond.

“Its legendary state, of course, is not attributed to any nutritional value,” explains Simon, “but to its exquisiteness and restorative qualities. Bathed in a can of Irn Bru [a Scottish carbonated drink], this national delicacy is the ultimate in hangover dreams! ”

Moscow

In Russia, a glass of jar pickle juice is a traditional hangover cure. The idea is that salt brine will take you to drink more water, something that the body needs when it is dehydrated. It is a convenient and economical option when you can't stand the idea of a solid meal, and walking to the refrigerator is as far as you can go.

It may seem like a crazy idea, but there is some science behind it. The pickle fermentation process creates digestive probiotics and large amounts of salt help replace the electrolytes lost by dehydration.

Dublin

Dublin has a famous pub culture, so it is not surprising that Ireland has devised a breakfast remedy for the day after.

“Dublin hangovers can be brutal,” says award-winning Dublin-born oyster chef Simon Lamont. Currently in command of the Seabird restaurant in London, Lamont thinks with love in one of the favorite priests of his country of origin: the blaa breakfast. A bread conceived in the city of Waterford but adopted in the capital in recent years, the option of fatty meat and carbohydrates involves a muffin of soft flour and generously spread with butter, or blaa, stuffed with bacon, sausages and black pudding. Hatch and Sons, near St. Stephen's Green, is a solid choice for a good blaa.

“Brown sauce [traditional British seasoning similar to ketchup] is the seasoning of choice, never ketchup. And bathe it with something sour [lemonade, sparkling water and bitters] or a pint of black beer, ”advises Lamont, who adds:“ If that doesn't work, a tray of freshly distilled oysters, obviously! ”

NY

Bacon, egg and cheese is never a bad idea, but do you know when it is a brilliant idea? When you fight with a brutal hangover but you don't have the option of staying in bed and sleeping. You may have tickets for the theater matinee or an important meeting.

Whatever it is, be assured that there is a store in the nearby corner ready to fry an egg or two, cover it with cheese (American, obviously) and fatty bacon before putting everything (with an expert maneuver) on a white roll Fresh or an English muffin. Butter is essential, salt and pepper are part of the territory and ketchup is optional.

Oh, and it doesn't matter what time it is - 8 am? noon? - It is perfectly acceptable to get rid of your usual normal coffee by a cold can of real Coca Cola.
