(CNN) - An Iowa woman who told police she ran over a teenage girl because "she was Mexican" was charged with another attempted murder after police said she hit a 12-year-old boy on the same day.

Nicole Poole Franklin was charged with attempted murder last week after admitting that she intentionally ran over a 14-year-old girl with her car and "made a series of derogatory statements about Latinos," police said.

And just an hour and a half after that incident, West Des Moines police said they proffered racist insults to an employee and customers in a West Des Moines store and threw items at the employee, which earned him charges of assault, theft and robbery. public intoxication

Des Moines police sergeant Paul Parizek said the images of the incident showed that she intentionally hit the 12-year-old boy, who is black, about an hour before he hit the 14-year-old girl with her car.

The boy was walking on the sidewalk in the parking lot of a Des Moines apartment when an SUV truck jumped the sidewalk, ran over his leg and fled, police said.

A witness told police that the SUV "accelerated the engine" before the driver hit the child and that she had seen her before at the scene.

The boy's injuries were minor, police said.

Two more incidents the same day

The 14-year-old girl said she was walking to her high school when Franklin hit her with her car. She was hospitalized for her injuries and returned to school in a week.

"I did nothing," he told KCCI, a CNN affiliate. "I'm just a girl who was walking towards a basketball game."

About 90 minutes later, police arrested Franklin in a West Des Moines store. He kept some items and when an employee asked him about the robbery, he began shouting racial insults against him and other clients, West Des Moines police said.

Agents accused her of aggression, theft and public intoxication. He then told officers that he had smoked methamphetamine in the past five hours, according to the report.

She admitted hitting the 14-year-old girl, whom CNN has not named because she is a minor, while detectives interviewed her about the incident in the store, Clive Police Department said.

The Office of the Public Defender for Adults of Des Moines withdrew from his case. A district judge will assign a new lawyer during his preliminary hearing for his first charge of attempted murder on December 30, the office told CNN.

Police say the crimes were motivated by hate

Clive police were investigating whether Franklin committed a hate crime when he ran over the girl. But Parizek said his motive is clear.

"By observing the three incidents collectively, the hateful motivation is evident," he told CNN in an email.

Local authorities have denounced Franklin's crimes.

"There is no place in our community (or any other) for this kind of hatred and violence," Clive police chief Michael Venema said after Franklin was first charged with attempted murder.
