A 19-year-old died at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem as a result of a complication of influenza. The young man was ill for several days and was treated at his home. Yesterday he collapsed and was evacuated to the hospital during CPR operations, after losing signs of life in an ambulance.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the medical team managed to regain his pulse, connecting it to an ECMO device that replaces heart operation. However, the young man's condition deteriorated to kidney failure and after a few hours his death was determined. At the hospital, the family regretted and called on the public to be vaccinated against the disease.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of Health announced a significant 9% increase in influenza disease activity. According to data from the National Center for Disease Control in the Ministry, the activity is reflected in an increase in referrals to health fund clinics due to flu-like morbidity and pneumonia. According to the ministry, the increase in the prevalence rate of illness in two weeks compared to the same period last year. In addition, the percentage of positive influenza samples received so far from clinics is higher than the same period last year.

Deputy Minister of Health Jacob Litzman called on the public to be vaccinated against the disease. "Vaccines are the safest way to prevent disease when it comes to getting a cure for the disease," he said. "They have a crucial contribution to the health of the children and the population in general. I urge the public to continue to be especially vaccinated against the flu. There are plenty of vaccines available."
