Chanukah holds many meanings and symbols, and no wonder it is one of the favorite holidays. For me, first and foremost, it's a family holiday. Everyone's holiday, a holiday in which everyone has a place and a part - a rare event in contemporary Israeli reality unfortunately.

The proof of this is that one of the most popular experiences in Israel is the gathering of the whole family together to light the menorah. With us in the family, one of the most special moments is when the children proudly display the menorahs they made in kindergarten and school - their handiwork to boast. And when they light candles in their menorah, they really shine happy.

So it's not surprising that in a recent survey, 99% of Israelis say they light candles. This is just proof of how far you can go when not trying to force it, but rather to create a cultural experience in which everyone has a part, where everyone is told about the plethora of their worldviews.

The historical story of Chanukah is also inspiring. The victory of the Maccabees over the Greeks is an important story, certainly in its Zionist context, and what it came to teach us as a people. But the story of the oil jug that was enough for eight days arrives just in time - to teach us that even if the situation seems daunting, and even if it seems like forever we will return to another election campaign and another, there is always hope to emerge from a contemporary oil can, which will change the picture and lead us to a company. Moral and revised, founded on the foundations of Judaism. Judaism of compassion and social justice.

Chanukah reminds me that there is always hope.
Happy holiday to everyone!
