Russia has announced its intention to design a strategic launcher for the sixth generation unmanned aircraft by 2040.
Russia today quoted Russian long-range aviation commander Major General Sergey Kubilash as saying in a statement, "We expect to manufacture by 2040 an unmanned strategic launcher for the sixth generation of unmanned aircraft," noting that the subsequent development of Russian long-range aircraft will not be achieved thanks to the development and modernization of strategic bombers Tu 160 / Tu 95 MS / Tu 22 M3 extending its service life not only by designing a promising strategic launcher for the fifth generation.
Kubilash added that the speed of this bomber will be lower than the speed of sound, which will reduce its hiding from enemy radars.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivorochko announced that the fifth-generation Russian strategic bomber would begin service in the Russian air and space forces in 2027.
