Photo: Reuters, edited by Asaf DruryThe United States announced Monday that it has stopped sending groping dogs to Jordan and Egypt, after some died as a result of neglect. In Amman and Cairo, they have not yet officially responded to the interim resolution aimed at preventing further deaths. "Every dog death on the battlefield is a particularly sad event," a State Department spokesman said.
Last September, a report dealing with the neglect of more than 100 dogs sent to Jordan, Egypt and eight other countries was published in recent years. The dogs were sent as part of a cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
A State Department spokesman said the dogs "played a crucial role in efforts to combat overseas terrorism and saved American lives." He added that dogs already shipped to the two Arab countries will remain there for the coming period.

According to the State Department Inspector General's report, one dog died in Jordan in 2017 from dehydration, while two more dogs returned "in a human condition." One was eventually anesthetized, while the other was fed due to severe underweight. All three were Belgian shepherds.
Another report released this month found that two other dogs were sent to Jordan for "unnatural" reasons - one from dehydration and the other from insect spray sprayed by police. Jordan has the largest number of American grooming dogs, about 100.
According to the report, three of the ten dogs sent to Egypt died of lung cancer, dehydration and gallbladder rupture.
