A 65-year-old Colorado state man was arrested after allegedly robbing a bank and throwing the money into the air while shouting "Merry Christmas" at bystanders. Police said David Wayne Oliver was arrested near a Starbucks branch in the city of Colorado Springs Monday afternoon. Police said he threatened to use a firearm when he robbed the bank and left him with an undisclosed amount of money.
On the local KKTV network, Dion Pascal, who was one of the passers-by, reported that the white-bearded robber walked out of the bank and threw the money "everywhere." It has also been reported, from his testimony, that Oliver "started spending money out of the sack" before wishing a merry Christmas. It was also reported that some passersby collected the money and returned it to the bank, while the robber marched to the nearest coffee shop branch, sat down and waited for police to arrest him.
The Denver Post reported that police said thousands of dollars had not yet been returned to the bank, but there were no indications that Oliver was indeed a firearm at the time of the robbery. He will appear in court for the first time tomorrow, at which time he is being held in El Paso County Jail. It is unknown whether he hired a lawyer.
