According to the Guardian, the tragedy occurred when a nine-year-old began drowning in a pool in Costa del Sol, and her brother, 16, and her father, 52, tried to rescue her, unsuccessfully. As far as is known, the father and daughter were British citizens, while the son was American. Their names have not yet been published.
The management of Club La Costa World Resort offered their "deepest condolences," adding: "Guests were found unconscious in one of the resorts. Rescue and emergency services teams approached the scene and provided first aid. Rescue and their emergency services for their prompt and appropriate responses, and to our staff for continuing to support the family during this difficult time. " Police divers reportedly checked out the swimming pool, including the pump.
Tania said, a 23-year-old tourist from the UK who was staying at the resort, told the PA that she saw bodies covered in white sheets by the pool. "You can't describe the feelings when I passed them," she said. "Obviously we've never been in this situation so we just started to go slow, a little confused, and eventually when we realized what was going on, we just kept quiet, didn't talk or anything."
