Chanukah also reached the Jews of Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. Nearly 500 members of the Orthodox community in Chisinau Moldova participated in a series of events to mark Hanukkah's first candle lighting

In recent years, activity has expanded to bring together the hearts and loves of Judaism in the Eastern European country. The Jewish community led by Pinchas Salzman, the community leader, has in recent years maintained a calm community life that includes a synagogue, a Jewish school with government assistance for the school's feed system and other institutions.

The holiday events included children's activity booths, explanatory sessions on the nature of the holiday and adult food, and discussions on Jewish heritage, identity and pride in communities living under rule and communist education. The climax was when the menorah lit up on the city street, when the older participants could not hide the excitement of having the holiday openly and without fear.

According to Rabbi Pinchas Salzman: "Kishinev and Moldova have always been a symbol of Jewish pride. It is one tenth in a row that we hold public lighting, and it is always exciting to think that not many years ago the government banned any Jewish activity, while today we receive the support of many government and politicians. Ask to participate in the activities of the Jewish community "
