An anonymous official at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology told the agency that the "security services" ordered the disabling of Internet in Elbrow, Kurdistan, and Zanjang districts in the central and western states, and in the southern state of Fars.

Last month, Iran shut down the Internet for about a week, with a view to halting protests that were soon political in nature. It was the most violent repression in Iran since the Islamic Revolution 40 years ago. Reuters reported on Monday, according to Iranian government officials, that about 1,500 people were killed under the orders of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, but the official Iranian government has furiously rejected the numbers.
The disabling of the internet has made it difficult for protesters to post videos on social networks to increase support for the protest, as well as external and internal officials who have tried to get reliable reports on the extent of the unrest.
