Syrian media outlets reported Wednesday a fierce explosion at a pro-Iranian Shiite militia headquarters in Bochmal town near the Iraqi border.

Reportedly on the news site affiliated with the Step News insurgents, locals reported hearing jet aircraft noise before the blasts and thus concluded that it was an air strike.

The Alelem news site reported that a MiG 29, a Russian-made aircraft operated by Iranian and Iraqi air forces, was observed over the attack site, but no official confirmation was reported.

In recent weeks, it has been reported that Iran continues to build and fortify the "Imam Ali" military base, near the Iraqi border and not far from the city of Buchmal, and recently there has been evidence that the Revolutionary Guards are building a missile storage facility.

The Imam Ali Revolution Revolutionary Guards Base is the diamond in the crown of the Iranian presence project in Syria. The base, and its dedicated border crossing, allow passage of a land route extending through Iraq to Iran, eliminating the need for Revolutionary Guards forces to hold an airborne landing system, an array that could collapse with widespread Israeli attack. The base was built to contain a large military force and armed well, perhaps even in long-range missiles.

The uncovered tunnel proves that the base was built as a front base for advanced weapons storage that Iranians could use in the event of a comprehensive confrontation with Israel. Foreign media recently reported the landing of Iranian transport aircraft at T4 base in Syria, and various sources have estimated that these are purse weapons deliveries for Quds force in the country.
