The ministry said Secretary of Defense Sergei Shavigo had informed President Vladimir Putin of the deployment, but the statement did not specify where the missiles were located. The president has argued that the new capability places his state in its own position.
The new system, called "Avant-garde," features a supersonic component found on an intercontinental ballistic missile, one of several new types of weapons promoted by Putin as one that preceded their time. According to the president, the new generation of countries' nuclear weapons can reach almost any point in the world and even penetrate American defense systems. However, some Western experts have questioned how advanced Russian missile systems are.

"Today is a unique situation in our history," Putin declared. "They (other countries) are trying to accelerate our pace. There is not one country that holds supersonic martial arts, let alone mid-terrestrial martial arts."

Last month, the president pledged to continue developing a unique nuclear missile. "We are talking about the world's most advanced, unequaled ideas and technical solutions for a weapons system designed to ensure Russia's sovereignty and security for decades to come," Putin said.
Despite the potholes on the way, Putin said Russia was still determined to perfect the weapons, which it called "a guarantee of world peace."
