IDF Special Forces Completion of Destruction of Tunnel Intended to Introduce Hundreds of Terrorists to Galilee Security Locations

IDF Special Forces today completed the destruction of the most significant tunnel of the Shiite terrorist organization, which aims to infiltrate hundreds of terrorists into the Galilee communities

IDF soldiers, led by the Northern Command and the Galilee, completed the destruction of Hezbollah's flagship tunnel, the sixth tunnel identified in Operation Northern Shield, which is also the largest and most significant tunnel of all.

An IDF spokesman said today that the forces have completed the destruction of the Shiite terrorist offensive tunnel, which was dug in recent years from a home in the Shi'ite village of Ramia toward an open area in Israel, in a seed-planted area. The tunnel was uncovered by the IDF last January as part of Operation Northern Shield.

The tunnel was neutralized through the flow of sealants, after extensive intelligence-operational research into the tunnel's route in recent months. The tunnel was demolished in a section off the border with Lebanon, and as mentioned above, it was completely out of use. This is another Hezbollah cross-border tunnel that is being demolished by the IDF, followed by the other tunnels that were demolished and destroyed during Operation "Northern Shield."

This tunnel is considered Hezbollah's flagship tunnel, and the one in which Hezbollah has invested the most resources and efforts. Infrastructure was installed in it that allowed a prolonged stay of terrorists inside, efficient excavation capability and the mobility of activists. The depth of the tunnel was about 80 meters, which is equivalent to a 22-story building, and it penetrated about 77 meters into Israeli territory.

In this operation, the Hezbollah IDF ruled out a key component of its emergency offensive plan, which it had built for years and was in the process of completing an excavation. For years, the IDF monitored Hezbollah's attempt to develop underground capabilities through various technological and intelligence measures, leading to the destruction of the tunnels as they concluded that they were approaching operational usability. The IDF spokesman said that the IDF is continuing various actions to protect the northern border and the security of its residents and that there is continuous contact with the residents of the north and the heads of the authorities.
