Athena-Sana
The Greek government has condemned the remarks of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on sending troops to Libya, describing them as "a new Ottoman expansion".
"Erdogan is playing with fire and all he can do is further isolate himself," Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Meltadis Farfitsiotis told Sky Radio, adding that "Athens is on the alert and the reactions to the new Ottoman expansion are taking place intensively and come from everyone east and west."
The Greek official indicated that his country is working to "internationalize the issue of Turkish provocations with the aim of preserving security and stability in the region."
Erdogan had talked yesterday about his expansionist ambitions and Ottoman illusions to reoccupy the region and announced his intention to send Turkish forces to Libya and make the parliament controlled by his Brotherhood party vote on this matter next month.
