(ANSA) - COSENZA, DECEMBER 27 - Mario Occhiuto withdraws his candidacy for the presidency of the Calabria Region accepting the invitation that had been sent to him by the leader of Forza Italia Silvio Berlusconi. "I'm used to building, not adistruggere," writes the mayor of Cosenza in a post on Facebook.
"My lonely race - continues Occhiuto - would have seemed almost a retaliation or a spite. I fought hard and I was defeated. This is the truth. Suggesting many friends and after yet another solicitation from President Berlusconi, I decided to step aside SilvioBerlusconi is a person dear to me whom I have always esteemed and admired and today at the point where we are I have judged his right invitation and esensato. I have not asked for assignments in exchange for me and I will not play any role in the regional authority. I proposed the candidate to President Jole. Santelli to incorporate in its program those ideas on which we had focused so much on the ecological turn and on new creative and innovative investments ".
