The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu informed Russian President Vladimir Putin of placing the Avangard strategic missile system in the event of a combat shift today.
"Shoigu informed the President of Russia about the deployment of the first armed missile regiment with the latest Avangard strategic missile system on December 27, 2019," Sputnik news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today.
Avangard is a strategic system with intercontinental ballistic missiles and is equipped with winged hypersonic missiles capable of flying in the dense layers of the atmosphere and maneuvering along the path to bypass any air defense system.
The Kremlin announced yesterday that the Ministry of Defense had conducted a successful launch of the high-speed missile Avangard.
