The International Astronomical Union called the “Ebla” the star “218566 HD” found in the constellation Pisces and the name “Ugarit” on the planet discovered about this star as a new achievement that the Syrian Astronomical Society is exploring in the field of exploration and naming of planets outside the solar system.

According to a statement of the Syrian Astronomical Society, SANA received a copy of it today, the International Astronomy Union endorsed during its recent meeting the name "Star 218566 HD" found in the constellation Pisces in the name of the star of Ebla and the planet discovered around this star in the name of planet Ugarit, so that the name Ebla and Ugarit will rise to space after the name Palmyra .

In 2015, the International Astronomy Union launched the name Palmyra on the planet revolving around the star of the shepherd after he won a vote on hundreds of proposals for cities and world famous names, as the number of votes obtained by Palmyra reached 631,704 votes.

The head of the Syrian astronomical society, Dr. Muhammad Al-Asiri, stated in a statement to SANA that the association, through its membership in the International Astronomy Union since 2018, sought to leave clear imprints in the records of the union through participation and excellence in all global activities, pointing out that the goal of naming “Ebla and Ugarit” is to emphasize The first alphabet in history is the Ugarit alphabet, and this is confirmed by all credible archaeological and scientific research.

Al-Asiri affirmed the astronomical association’s commitment to work to raise the name of Syria high in international forums working in the field of space and astronomy.

The Syrian Astronomical Society, “The Syrian Society of Astronomers Previously,” is a scientific association that was announced on August 31, 2005, working to spread and develop astronomy in Syria and the Arab countries by all possible means.
