The Philippines today announced a ban on the entry of US Congressmen Richard Durbin and Patrick Leahy to its territory, warning that it will tighten restrictions on visiting US citizens if Washington imposes sanctions on it.
"President Rodrigo Duterte will require US citizens to obtain visas if any Filipino official is denied entry to the United States," Sputnik said, quoting Philippine Presidency spokesman Salvador Banu, adding, "We will not stand idly by if they continue to interfere in our procedures as a sovereign nation."
Duterte's move came after the U.S. Congress approved the 2020 budget, which includes a provision by Senator Durbin Leahy targeting anyone related to the detention of Philippine opposition Senator Lily de Lima in her country, which was accused of drug-related crime in early 2017.
