After the primaries: How to preserve momentum

When the polls close in the Likud primaries on Thursday, the Likud and Benjamin Netanyahu's most important battle actually opened. In the end, it was a day of democracy, freedom of expression and the swift political participation of tens of thousands in inclement weather. If the Likud wants to maintain momentum and win at the end of the third campaign, it should lead the election campaign as one body - genius, generous and cruel, in Jabotinsky's words.

In the first phase, Netanyahu must embrace and generously connect winners of all Likud elements and leaders, including those who challenged his leadership. This is not just winning gestures, but also an existential necessity. In order for the other party not to make propaganda capital from Sa'ar and his camp - for Netanyahu not being able to form a government - the Likud chief must create a climate that will allow the Sa'ar camp to be an integral part of the Likud family and fully committed to its success. Or then the 45 candidates must be convened and a commitment from everyone in the Likud victory.

In the second stage, three divisions that traditionally were among the Likud supporters should be strengthened: immigrants from the former CIS, the Druze and the Ethiopian community. They need to formulate an agenda, deal with their problems, develop a cow dialogue with them and participate in the election discourse. At the same time, the Likud strongholds must be returned and work intensively to increase their voting percentages. Increasing voter turnout should be a key target of the Likud, especially in places such as Bat Yam, where tens of thousands of Likud voters did not reach the ballot on Monday.

How to do it? First, as the primaries campaign has shown - through back to the field, discourse and attainment with voters, contact with voters and continuous and direct dialogue. There is no substitute for it. But the key to success lies in changing attitudes as well: the Likud must stop the Vogel campaign and lead another election discourse, the main message of which is: "proud to vote for Likud."

This is the extra, deeper lesson of the primaries; The discourse of sacrifice exhausted itself. The negative campaign can be saved to opponents. Inside, into the national camp, one must speak in terms of victory, security and pride. And there's something about it. The Likud recorded unprecedented political, economic, security and social achievements. On the other side, however, there is nothing: no internal democracy, no agenda, no agenda and no achievements. The third campaign should be based on the desire that the Likud - with and without Netanyahu - continue to be the party that is leading the big change in the State of Israel.

And in this context, the Likud knows and can, unlike all its competitors, present a clear horizon that should be at the center of the campaign: the battle of authorities and reforms needed in the justice system. Restraining the Attorney General's Office and supervising investigated rights, reducing the High Court's involvement in the executive branch's actions, changing the Judiciary Committee, splitting the Judiciary functions and more. Faced with the rival party, whose heads are afraid to make up their minds here, the Likud can set not only clear goals, but also the record of a party that changes reality.
