The torrential rains in Tartous governorate during the past two days led to an increase in the storage ratio in the dams of the governorate, in addition to the closure of an old rain drainage term in the Akkar Plain, which led to minor damage to crops.
The Director of Water Resources, Eng. Issa Hamdan, stated in a statement to the Sana correspondent that as a result of the heavy rainstorms, the small dams in the governorate were filled with the Sourani Dam (storage capacity 4.5 million cubic meters) and the Dreikish Dam (6 million cubic meters) and the Khalifa Dam (3 million cubic meters), pointing to The volume of storage in Al-Basel Dam increased to 45 million cubic meters.
In turn, the president of the farmers ’union in the governorate Mudar Asaad explained that one of the rainy ferries was closed yesterday evening in the Akkar Plain, which led to minor damage to the agricultural land adjacent to it and planted with potatoes, stressing that after the end of the storm, the extent of the damage will be estimated by the extension units and the farmers union and compensation for those who are entitled.
Director of Meteorology in Tartous, Mahmoud Mubarak pointed out that the governorate was exposed yesterday to a sea dragon with a small diameter that did not exceed a few meters, entered the lanes between the houses in Al-Areed Street in Tartous, stressing that the dragon is a natural phenomenon that occurs every year as a result of imbalance and instability in the atmosphere and a large decrease in the surrounding environment with Atmospheric pressure of up to (fifty milli-barra) occurs within one minute for the dragon to turn counterclockwise, and it may strike from a few meters to a kilometer and take everything encountered in its path.
The director of the Tartous City Council, the engineer, Mazhar Hassan, confirmed that the damage to the marine dragon was simple, limited to material, as the windows of some shops and windows were broken, and some trees were broken in the aforementioned street.
