The Political System Tainted by Politics | Israel today

The Supreme Court and the State Attorney's Office have been seen for quite a few years as a political actor • This week, judges in the Jets will decide how much to go down this slippery slope.

It is hard to believe that Honorable Justice Vogelman holds the future of democracy in the Middle East in his hands. This week, he and his presidential friends are alive and Judge Meltzer will decide whether to go a few steps down the high court's galloping politicization, or decide not to decide on Netanyahu's eligibility for prime minister.

By the end of the week, it was also difficult to understand what our lives were like without ministers of agriculture, welfare and diaspora. Add to that the three ministers that Netanyahu will have to appoint to the circle of needy among the Knesset members and the compensation and pensions and the huge adjustment grants that involve their short term.

In any case, Netanyahu will succeed in the potholes and already the question arises, especially in retrospect - how does he do it despite all the obstacles? The answer lies in the forgotten event three days ago: the primaries on the Likud movement's leadership. Or in other words: Netanyahu's broad public support is gaining support that has been only slightly eroded, and perhaps not played at all, but only betrayed by Avigdor Lieberman.

Netanyahu: "In Democracy, the People Decides Who's Leader"

But the intention is that there is not much to understand about Netanyahu's "survival." Former political leaders who lost their public support, such as Yitzhak Rabin or Ehud Olmert, had to draw conclusions and resign no matter what their legal status. Prime Minister Netanyahu has not done so far. The Supreme Court and the State Attorney's Office have been seen for quite a few years as a political actor, serving a particular social group. If right-wing leaders wanted Netanyahu to go home, they would demand it and he would retire.

But not only are the Allies on the right stabilizing Netanyahu's leadership, but political opponents Benny Gantz and Ayman Odeh are doing well. They both chose to attack and use wretched expressions in regards to the Likud's democratic process that strengthened Netanyahu and, at the same time, gave Gideon Sa'ar the status of a distinguished opponent. Gantz accused the Likud of electing a leader who would continue to destroy the rule of law in the country; And his partner obeys contempt for the internal elections and takes comfort in the fact that Netanyahu does not leave the ship and takes her with him to the barracks. It is hard not to be impressed that these reactions actually reveal both partners their true attitude to democracy.

Gantz throws comment on the political justice system. He forgets that the politicization of the judicial system in Israel is approaching the dimensions of the one that characterizes the International Criminal Court in The Hague. There it is less protected than in our country. The Hague Tribunal is indeed more political than the country's court, but not by much. It is hard to expect that the same court that legalized Azmi Bishara at the time - a staunch supporter of Israeli enemies who turned out to be a Hezbollah agent - would actually reject the prime minister with the forced and unproven charges.
