Police and Prison Service Tighten: Minister of Public Security Gilad Arden is expected to announce his candidacy for the police commissioner and prison service commissioner in the coming days.
The two organizations are preparing for two scenarios: a scenario of stability in which two of the deputies, Motti Cohen in police and Gonder Asher and Kenin in IPS, will be officially announced as natural candidates for the job, a scenario that may broadcast instability where Arden will express disloyalty to two candidates.
The next day, the government will be required to extend for the third time the position of Deputy Commissioner and IPS Commissioner.
Last week, Arden met with the head of the Information Security Unit and received answers on specific subject matters, from polygraph examinations and information security.
The Jerusalem District Commander, Doron Yadid, was interviewed for the position, although less than a year ago, he was appointed to command the Jerusalem District, and Alon Peretz was not interviewed despite being appointed only last July. The IPS interviewed the head of the service and Deputy Commissioner Gundar Ilan Malka. The Attorney General made it clear to Arden that the term of the Police Commissioner and IPS Commissioner will be rigid and cannot be extended except in emergency circumstances, and that this will be clarified in the government's decision.
The intriguing question now is whether Arden will put these two organizations in shock during a sensitive period, such as the withdrawal of a friend of a Jerusalem District commander and his parachute in the IPS or his appointment as commissioner, or whether he wants to broadcast stability by announcing two stockists as natural candidates for the position.
