Last updated: 2019-12-29 20:32Twenty people were arrested on Saturday in a "with you shop" rally in Sheung Shui. Police said that on Saturday afternoon, about 150 demonstrators gathered in the area of Sheung Shui Plaza, 39 Longchen Road, and entered the mall to disrupt order and hinder normal commercial activities without notifying the police as required by law. Police arrested 18 men and 2 women, aged between 13 and 34, for illegal assembly. During the operation, five male police officers were injured in the attack and were soberly rushed to Nethersole Hospital for treatment.
Police allege that four of the arrested men, aged 16 to 27, were obstructing arrests and attacking police officers. They were also suspected of obstructing police officers from performing their duties and being arrested. Police officers also seized laser pens, paint sprays and hammers on an 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl. They were arrested for possession of tools for illegal purposes and possession of offensive weapons. The case was referred to the District Crime Squad of Tai Po for follow-up. The arrested are being detained for investigation.
