A member of the United States Army Sea Lions Unit who has been prosecuted for war crimes has been described by his fellow unit members as "evil, toxic, and the one who is ready to kill anyone." In the New York Times documentary, Edward Gallagher's friends are shown in a photographic testimony given to the court while their commander was on trial for war crimes, including the murder of ISIS prisoner captured in Iraq.

The commander was acquitted in July by a military court for murder and all other offenses, except for an illegal photograph of a prisoner body from ISIS. The case of decorated fighter Edward Gallagher has occupied the country in recent times, including President Donald Trump standing next to him. Trump granted Galgar a pardon last November and regained his ranks taken from him following the conviction

The fighters from Team 7's Alpha Alpha belonging to the Sea Lions appeared to be uncomfortable moving about their former commander, and some burst into tears as they described what happened. "This man is just evil," said one of his former subordinates. "You could see on his face that he could kill anything that moved," said a sniper who served under Gallagher.

Gallagher, 39, did not testify in his defense and declined to comment publicly since the trial began. He said after the dramatic decision that "I am happy and grateful." He added: "Thank God, my legal team and my wife."

A statement issued by Gallagher's lawyer stated that when he saw the officer's video of his unit members, he was "surprised and disgusted that they could make up such lies, but I soon realized that they were afraid of the cowardice they were working on while we were in Iraq."

Several of his unit members testified that he stabbed the Iraqi prisoner to the neck with a knife after he was transferred to medical treatment in 2017. Some of those witnesses also said they had seen Gallagher, who was originally trained as a medic, taking several emergency steps before the death of the 17-year-old detainee.

Gallagher was also charged with attempting to murder two unarmed civilians - a schoolgirl and an adult - who were hit by sniper shootings, as well as by deliberate shootings at other civilians and disrupting an investigation. He was convicted after being photographed along with other fighters alongside the dead body of the fighter, who was brought to the camp where Gallagher was staying by Iraqi general after being seriously wounded in an air strike.
