Moti Seligson, communications director of the Chabad.org website, reported that the event began during the Chanukah party at the rabbi's house. During or after the menorah ceremony, a person entered the scene and started stabbing people. According to various reports, the stabber has an African-American appearance. "Jews are injured again," wrote Dov Hakind, a former New York State official. "An attack on a Jew is an attack on all Jews - we are on our way to help as much as we can for the community."

Monsey is a prominent Jewish center in the United States and operates several Hasidic communities, including Vizhnitz Hasassi and Satmar Hasidic Hasidic and more. It also has the Upper Beit Midrash Yeshiva, community and other Lithuanian institutions. Last month, a 30-year-old ultra-Orthodox man was stabbed on Mae Street in Muncie.
