"Chanukah fees" at the gas stations: At midnight between Tuesday and Wednesday this week, fuel prices dropped by 2 pence per liter. The price of self-service octane 95 liters of gasoline will be NIS 6.14, and full service, including a refueling fee, has dropped to NIS 6.35 - a saving of one shekel in refueling a full 50-liter fuel tank. This is according to data from the Fuel Administration at the Ministry of Energy.
Even in Eilat, where VAT is not paid, fuel prices and a liter of 95 octane petrol in self-service will be NIS 5.25, and full service including a refueling fee of 18 penny decreased to NIS 5.43.
The meager drop in fuel prices is attributed to a 0.97% decline in the price of international gasoline in the Mediterranean basin, and the dollar weakening by 0.09%. Of the NIS 6.14 per liter of gasoline, NIS 3.96, 59%, of the final consumer price goes to the Treasury - NIS 3.07 excise tax on fuel, NIS 0.89 VAT.
The reduction in fuel prices at the beginning of January 2020 came after the price of gasoline liters rose by 2.5% in 2019 and in December rose to NIS 6.16, compared with NIS 6.01 in December 2018.
In December 2012, the price of a liter of self-service gasoline was NIS 7.52, so its price is NIS 1.38 lower per liter, a decrease of 18.4% in the aggregate. This is a saving of NIS 69 in fueling a full fuel tank of 50 liters and a saving of NIS 345 per month.
In December 2010, the price of a liter of self-service gasoline was exactly NIS 7.14, one shekel less today, which is considered a savings of NIS 50 in refueling a full fuel tank of 50 liters, and of about NIS 250 a month.
