According to the report, the attack was carried out at the base of the Hezbollah militia in the al-Qa'im area of western Iraq, near the border with Syria. It was also reported that a high alert was announced at US bases in the country.
Reports come a day after at least 30 rockets were fired at a U.S. Army base near the city of Karkuk. In the attack, which was the largest on U.S. forces in Iraq since October, an American contractor was killed. US officials also reported more casualties from US and Iraqi forces staying at the base.
The Iraqi Army said the missiles were fired on the K1 military base, 15 miles northwest of Kyrchuk in the north of the country. The base serves as an ammunition storage facility and is populated by U.S. Army troops. Iraqi security forces, which launched an investigation into the incident, announced yesterday that they are expected to respond to the attack. An American official told the French news agency that at least 30 rockets hit the base, one of which exploded near an ammunition depot, causing many sub-explosions at the scene.
