Oil wars: Iranian news agency IRNA reports that Revolutionary Guards arrested two (2) oil tankers this evening, carrying 16 Malaysian personnel. According to the report, in Iran the tanker is suspected of "smuggling oil to some Arab countries" and contained almost 1.5 million liters of oil in its stomach. Iran used to stop oil tankers from Persian Gulf waters on this basis from time to time.

It is currently unknown under the flag of which oil tanker sailed, but in recent months Iran has detained several oil tankers as part of its fight against the sanctions imposed by the United States, and the oil war it is waging against the Gulf states.

• US petitioned against Iranian tanker release

Last July, Iranian Revolutionary Forces arrested two British tankers passing through the Persian Gulf waters, seizing them and transporting them to Iran's ports on various grounds. The move was made in response to the arrest of Iranian Grace 1 tanker in Gibraltar waters by British forces. After about a month and a half, both Britain and Iran released each other's tankers, despite US opposition to the release of Grace 1.

At the same time, a number of attacks against the Gulf countries' oil infrastructure have occurred, including oil tankers and even the oil refinery of Saudi Aramco - one of the world's largest companies. These attacks, carried out with the help of mines and UAVs, are considered to escalate the war that Iran is waging with many Arab countries as part of its competition with Saudi Arabia over regional control.
