Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Monday) announced his intention to make a special statement to the media, only to cancel it less than an hour later. The prime minister did not announce, on the one hand, the background to the statement he was about to make, nor the reason for the cancellation.

Blue and white attacked Netanyahu as a result of the rapid announcement and cancellation, claiming it was proof of Netanyahu's incompatibility with the prime minister's position. "He can't make a statement, how will he run a state?", The party's Twitter account said.

One of the assessments is that the statement was intended to address the issue of the prime minister's immunity, ahead of the date for deciding whether to apply for immunity. If Netanyahu chooses to seek immunity from prosecution, he must do so by Wednesday at midnight, 30 days after the indictments are filed against him.

Today, Netanyahu's attorneys, lawyers Yossi Cohen and Amit Haddad, filed their response to a petition filed with the Supreme Court, which required the establishment of a Knesset committee to discuss Netanyahu's request - should it be filed. In a petition submitted to the High Court, it was argued that the Knesset is obliged to establish a Knesset committee to discuss the immunity request of MK Haim Katz and the Prime Minister, as far as it is submitted.

In response, his attorneys claimed that this was an intervention in the Knesset's state of affairs: "This is a very unusual step involving intervention in parliamentary and political proceedings, ignoring a constitutional practice whereby Knesset committees are not established as long as a government is not established and we are in political reality. Knesset members reached consensus on such issues, which led to the State of Israel being in an election campaign for the 23rd Knesset, "the reply said.

"It is wrong and unjust to force a Knesset that failed to formulate a government and a clear coalition and opposition force to make decisions on such important issues," the prime minister's power of attorney added in the response to the petition.
