Turkish police have arrested dozens of people on suspicion of ties to the Islamic State (ISIS) - official news agency Anadolu reported on Monday ahead of the New Year celebrations. It was also reported that at least 33 foreign nationals were arrested in the capital, Ankara, in joint action by the Anti-Terrorism Unit and the National Intelligence Agency.

According to a separate report, police conducted several raids simultaneously, before sunrise, in the city of Batman in southeastern Turkey, where 22 suspects were arrested. In the raids in Adana and Kaiseri cities, 15 people were arrested, including six foreign nationals. In Anadulo, the ISIS detainees in Ankara were reported to be from Iraq, Syria and Morocco. Police are conducting a hunt for 17 other suspects.

Turkey was severely beaten in a wave of terror attacks in 2015 and 2016, attributed to ISIS and the Kurdish underground, in which more than 300 people were killed. ISIS also took responsibility for the attack on the Istanbul nightclub during the New Year celebrations in January 2017. 39 people were killed, most of them foreigners. One of them was an Israeli girl.
