Russian President Vladimir Putin's remarks that Poland was cooperating with the Nazis during World War II have sparked outrage around the world, prompting reactions from representatives of the United States and European countries.
US Ambassador to Poland, Georgette Monsbacher, wrote on her Twitter page that: "Dear President Putin, Poland and the USSR cooperated in the opening of World War II.
The Russian Embassy in Warsaw did not have to remain and wrote to the ambassador that: "Dear Ambassador, do you really think you understand more in history than you understand diplomacy?"

But the US ambassador's statements echoed previous statements by the German ambassador and representatives of several other countries that Poland had no connection to German aggression or the start of World War II. German Ambassador Rolf Nickel and Israeli Ambassador Alexander Ben Zvi said yesterday that the war was a product of the 1939 Nazi-Soviet agreement.
"Anti-Semitic Poland cooperated with Hitler"
Russian President Vladimir Putin strongly criticized the Poles' conduct during World War II on Tuesday, saying they cooperated with the Nazis and held anti-Semitic positions during the war.
During a speech at an event this year at the Moscow Ministry of Defense, the president said: "In essence, the Poles cooperated with Hitler. This is clear from documentation from the period, from archives and other sources."

Unusually, the Russian president used harsh language, Putin accused that during the war, the Polish ambassador to Germany promised to place a statue of Hitler in Warsaw and send the Jews of his country to Africa. "He was a bastard, an anti-Semitic pig. There is no other way to describe him."
"He expressed full support for Hitler and his anti-Semitic views," Putin concluded. The president went on to claim that Poland is now trying to rewrite history and erase the memory of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.
